Ni hao everyone. My name's Micah Moore. I'm an independent filmmaker in Greensboro who has won several awards for short films, and we are in pre-production for my upcoming feature film called "Dogs of Chinatown" which we'll be shooting in NC. If anyone here is interested in being a part of the film, please contact me. It is a dramatic crime noir with slick action (think 'Sha Po Lang' meets 'Sin City'), much more in accord with Hong Kong cinema than mainland. Although the surface premise is a stereotypical Chinese Triad vs. Italian Mafia setting, the characters are very layered and interesting. The film is about a young man without friends or family who (through a fateful event) finds a home amongst a Triad gang and is groomed to be an assassin. But his newfound life and 'family' is threatened by an escalating war with the Italian mafia and treachery within his own ranks. The philosophical depth and visual style will distinguish this film from its sterotypical counterparts. Taiwanese director Rudy Chu and a handful of Chinese martial artists are already onboard to handle specific aspects of the film. Many of the scenes will take place in nightclubs, bars, and other venues either "ran by the Chinese or the Italians," so various cultural performers (music, etc) placed in those settings would really enhance those scenes. We're still in pre-production, raising the budget, creating storyboards, etc, but we want to go ahead and form a database of interested talent. That way when we actually have our casting calls and our timeframe, we can just email everyone. We will probably begin shooting late Summer/early Fall. We won't have a huge budget, but we're more focused on finding acclaim in the major film festivals. So this project is ideal for actors/performers who are more interested in a great spotlight than a fat paycheck. However, we'll have the basics covered and we'll be insured.
